28 May 2022 starting at 12:00 noon
This is a point-to-point event starting at Exeter St David's Railway station and finishing at London Marylebone. Controls are at Wells, Durrington (Wilts), Stow-on-the-Wold, Buckingham, Marylebone (finish).
It is an X-rated event, meaning that there are no officially manned controls and you complete, sign, and return your card by post.
Post-pandemic the status of the 24hr controls is uncertain. I will check and update nearer the event, but you might be wise to carry some provisions with you.
The Controls
Wells. There are several options in the town including a garage on the route and several shops a little off-route in the town centre. Ensure you return to the route to pass the cathedral on your way out of the town.
Durrington. A garage and a Tesco are to be found on the left after crossing the roundabout (do not turn left at the roundabout). They both close around 2200hrs. The route continues and turns into a very minor lane by the ancient Bulford church, then follows lanes along the Avon valley northwards to Marlborough, before skirting Swindon.
Stow-on-the-Wold. There is a 24hr garage on the left after the right turn on to the main road.
Buckingham. A choice of 24hr garages on the right just off the by-pass, before & at the right turn.
The finish: Marylebone Station. There are food stalls inside the station and various cafes, etc. nearby. Make sure your bike is secure.
Here is a link to a map of the route.
Here is a zipped gpx file with controls waymarked (updated 21.09.21) ( see notes above about controls).(note this is just a gpx track. It will not provide reliable turn-by-turn routing unless you run it through one of the online routing apps. Even then you should check the route through Wells as the way past the cathedral involves crossing a footway)
Routesheet is here. (updated 12.04.22)
